Hello all, here is my May ’24 news.
We kick off with a visit to DHL in Leeds to photograph them in action for an issue of their Yello! magazine. I was sent there by my client Made by Sonder, to create as much content as possible in three hours. The shot list was long and ambitious. However, it all came together because of Natalie the site administrator (pictured second image down on the left) and her ‘can do’ attitude. She facilitated everything I needed. Nothing was too much trouble and her positive attitude ensured we got lots of different shots. It makes such a difference when you have someone like that on your side during a photoshoot. You can view the magazine photoshoot (front cover and pages 16 &17).
Here is my second look at some more of the images from Lancaster and Morecombe College producing fresh photography for their prospectuses, website and marketing material. You can also see a case study I’ve put together. I do quite a bit of education photography in primary and secondary schools although it’s often difficult to share the images because of GDPR guidelines and permissions. They are always full on but enjoyable photography days trying to get as much content as possible for the school. The images shown here were all composed to suit the website – a wide landscape shape.
A new experience for me now – flying abroad for a photoshoot! I travelled to Essen in Germany with SMRS for a commercial photoshoot for RWE. RWE is a multinational energy company that generates and trades electricity across the world. This photography was all about what makes RWE a great place to work. Several people had been picked out to be featured as case studies. I took both posed portraits of them in their work environment and also office lifestyle images of them at work, collaborating and interacting with other people. Fortunately, everyone spoke wonderful English as my German is pretty much limited to Hallo, Auf Wiedersehen and Danke – which I very much overused. Flying abroad for work for the first time was quite stressful. I spent a long time planning the trip and working out where to hire equipment from. Now I’ve done it twice it doesn’t seem quite as daunting. You can see more of this shoot office lifestyle photoshoot here.
Lastly, one of my favourites, Jo Grobbelaar who is a strategic business consultant and coach asked me to photograph one of her workshops. This was very much a reportage photoshoot where I don’t interrupt (as they have actual work to be doing). However, Jo is a star and managed to change her clothes several times during the day 🙂 This means that she can get more use out of the images and it can look like different days and different situations. A little still life shoot was thrown into the mix. Luckily the location, Bonded Warehouse, has amazing furniture and furnishing. As such, I had plenty to play with to make a beautiful little still life of the training material.
Last December I spent a couple of days with Garic who sell or hire welfare units and equipment to the construction and infrastructure industry. Wilson Cooke were working on Garic’s new brand and commissioned me to build up a bank of imagery

Read moreLast October found me loitering in parks, looking rather suspicious with my camera on a tripod pointing at nothing, whilst I waited for my next person to arrive for their headshot. Fortunately it wasn’t long, as there were plenty of people to photograph for Gillespies - (landscape architects, master planners, and urban designers).
Read moreThis was a really fun shoot with Marie Thom for Good Housekeeping magazine entitled ‘In my experience - Midlife dramas in pyjamas’. Marie made myself and make up artist Charlotte really welcome. I set up a little ‘photo booth’ in her front room and started unpacking all of the fab props sent by the magazine.

The main part of the shoot involved setting up a studio with a white background and photographing our volunteers separately and then interacting with each other to be used in a recruitment campaign.
