Rachael and Rebecca from Lancaster and Morecambe College asked me to help them create fresh photography for their prospectuses, website and marketing material. Lancaster and Morecambe college offer both academic and vocational courses as well as training packages to meet the needs of businesses. They also offer apprenticeships and the new T-levels. I was there for three days in a row covering pretty much all of their courses – and they have a really broad range! I went from animal care to welding, from sport to gaming design. Within every area I tried to get several set ups and options as well as a ‘wide landscape version’ that would be suitable for the website. These education photoshoots are always jam packed and full on. One minute I’m trying to figure out how to make a plumbing shot look good, thirty minutes later I’m in travel and tourism. I always try hard to make sure the image shows what the subject is, that it tells the story well. Childcare should look like childcare and joinery should look like joinery. Sometimes it’s straightforward, however sometimes I have to really build the shot and pull lots of elements together. This was an exhausting but great job and I have to say thanks to Rachael and Rebecca for their amazing organisational skills – you can imagine what goes into arranging a day like this, never mind three in a row. But also to Teagan who was on work experience with me that week and fitted in so well, taking it all in her stride and becoming a very valued member of the team.
I do quite a bit of education photography in primary and secondary schools as well as colleges, although it’s often difficult to share the images because of GDPR guidelines and permissions. They are always full on but enjoyable photography days trying to get as much content as possible for the school.
